Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The biodegradation of DPnB was assessed in the OECD 301A, 301E, 301B, 301D, and 302B tests.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

DPnB met the criteria of readily biodegradable in the OECD 301A and 301E test (key studies). Supporting studies also show substantial biodegradation of DPnB. Substantial biodegradation (approximately 42 to 50% after 28 days) of DPnB was observed in the OECD 301B CO2 Evolution Test using microbial inoculum pre-exposed to the test compound for 10 days. Extensive biodegradation of DPnB was also observed in an OECD 302B test (78% in 14 days and 96% in 28 days), consistent with inherent, ultimate biodegradability according to OECD guidelines. No biodegradation was observed in the OECD 301D closed bottle test. This result is not unexpected since the test uses a lower microbial inoculum concentration.
