Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The bioaccumulation potential for 1,1-dimethylheptanethiol has been read across from tert-dodecanethiol. Under the experimental conditions, tert-dodecanethiol had a biomagnification factor always lower than 0.01 and therefore dietary bioaccumulation was not observed.

Additional information

The bioaccumulation potential of 1,1 -dimethylheptanethiol has been read across from tert-dodecanethiol, which was determined in a GLP-compliant study (Egeler et al 2013). One concentration of tert-dodecanethiol was prepared and the test animals were exposed to this concentration as well as to a negative control and a positive control treated with 14C-hexachlorobenzene for a test period of 15 days (uptake phase). Thereafter, the fish were fed on non-spiked fish food and a depuration phase of 42 days was performed. Although a standard guideline was not available for this test, the study took into account key aspects from the OECD 305 “bioconcentration: flow-through fish test”, the background document to the fish dietary study protocol and the OECD guideline “bioaccumulation in fish: aqueous and dietary exposure”.
