Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For 1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane (HFC 134a) auto-ignition temperature was found to be in excess of 743°C (1016K) at 1 atm pressure.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The degree of auto-ignitabality is expressed in terms of the auto-ignition temperature. The auto ignition temperature is the lowest temperature at which the test substance will ignite when mixed with air under the conditions of the test. The method determines the minimum temperature of the inner surface of an enclosure that will result in ignition of a gas, vapour or liquid injected into the enclosure. In the case of 1,1,1,2 -tetrafluoroethane (HFC 134a) this auto-ignition temperature was found to be in excess of 743°C (1016K) at 1 atm pressure.
