Description of key information

In accordance to section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. The gaseous nature of difluoromethane precludes the conductance of conventional skin and eye irritation studies in animals. However, acute exposure up to 520,000 ppm (1107000 mg/m3) and repeated exposure up to 50,000 (105000 mg/m3) ppm did not show signs of eye, skin or respiratory irritation.

Additional information

In accordance to section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the studies on skin and eye irritation do not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The gaseous nature of difluoromethane precludes the conduct of conventional skin and eye irritation tests in animals. Therefore, classification for skin and eye irritation is not applicable according to EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
