Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Toxicity to microorganisms: ASRI 3 hr EC50 >100mg/l (loading rate) (OECD 209) for read-across substance dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The submission substance is a multiconstituent substance with three major constituents: 1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilane, 1,1,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trimethyldisilane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1,2-dimethyldisilane. No reliable data are available for the toxicity to microorganisms of the submission substance. A toxicity to microorganisms study is, however, available for the related substance dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane. It is considered appropriate to read across the toxicity to microorganisms result for dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane because it is considered a close structural analogue of the submission substance. Both the submission substance and dichloro(methyl)(vinyl)silane will hydrolyse rapidly under conditions relevant to microbial toxicity assessment, to similar hydrolysis products, the dimethylsilanediol and methylsilanetriol for the submissions substance and methylvinylsilanediol for the read-across substance. The other hydrolysis product is hydrogen chloride. Effects of hydrogen chloride on microorganisms are limited to those that result from changes to pH in unbuffered media.
