Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2020
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: ISO 2926:2013 Aluminium oxide used for the production of primary aluminium – Particle size analysis for the range 45 μm to 150 μm – Method using electroformed sieves
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The particle size is determined refering to ISO 2926:2013. With a sieve shaker, a certain mass of the sample is sieved through a series of sieves with various aperture size. Each mass of the separate fractions retained on the sieve is weighed and the mass distribution of the particle sizes could be calculated.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: electroformed sieves
Type of particle tested:
primary particle
Type of distribution:
mass based distribution
Mass median aerodynamic diameter:
>= 500 µm
Geometric standard deviation:
>= 0.17 - <= 0.41
Key result
Percentile:
D95
Mean:
>= 100 µm
St. dev.:
0.29
No.:
#1
Size:
>= 10 - <= 106 µm
Distribution:
ca. 1.14 %
No.:
#2
Size:
> 106 - <= 355 µm
Distribution:
ca. 9.26 %
No.:
#3
Size:
> 355 - <= 500 µm
Distribution:
ca. 19.74 %
No.:
#4
Size:
> 500 µm
Distribution:
ca. 69.58 %
Conclusions:
The determination results could be available based on the fact that the relative differences between the sum of all masses and the mass of the sample taken, were 0.17% and 0.41%, both less than 1.5%.
