- Executive summary:
A study was conducted according to German standard methods VDI 2263, Page 1: "Staubbrände und Staubexplosionen, Gefahren - Beurteilung - Schutzmaßnahmen; Untersuchungsmethoden zur Ermittlung von sicherheitstechnischen Kenngrößen von Stäuben" and DIN EN 61241-2-2 (VDE 0170/0171 Part 15-2-2) to determine explosion characteristics of the test item. The experimental determination of the explosion characteristics was performed in a closed 20 L explosion sphere. The test item dust is blown into the sphere from a dust storage container by means of compressed air at 20 bar overpressure via a dust distribution device. Pyrotechnic primers which are electrically ignited serve as ignition initiators.
The MZE (= minimum ignition energy) is determined using the MIKE 3 test apparatus. A modified Hartmann tube made of glass with a volume of 1.2 dm3 is used as the explosion vessel.
The samples of the test item are explosive and are assigned to dust explosion class St 1 on the basis of the KSt values of 183 bar*m/s and 195 bar*m/s respectively. With regard to the minimum ignition energies of 30 mJ < MZE < 100 mJ and 100 mJ < MZE < 300 mJ determined without inductance, these two dust samples are classified as normally sensitive to ignition. According to the results of the resistance measurements, both samples are not classified as conductive dust.
