Description of key information
The acute Daphnia toxicity is derived from Geranyl acetate. The read across rationale is presented in the Aquatic toxicity Enpoint and the accompanying file is also attached there.
Geranyl acetate and its acute Daphnia toxicity
The toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was investigated in a study according to EU TG C.2, and in compliance with GLP criteria. In this study groups of Daphnia magna (2 replicates of 10) were exposed to nominal test6 concentration of 0 (control), 7.5, 15 and 30 mg/L for 48 hours under static conditions. Nominal concentrations were analytically verified at the start and at the end of the exposure period by means of TOC determination. Arithmetic mean measured concentrations were determined to be n.d., 7.7, 12.6, and 25.9 mg/L based on test material (calculated from 1.0 mg/L TOC being equivalent to 1.4 mg/L test material). As measured concentrations were in the range of ca. 64% to 83% of nominal, effect values are expressed as measured concentrations. Daphnia immobility was recorded at 24 hours and 48 hours after the start of exposure. Percentages immobility were 0, 50 and 100 at the respective test concentrations of 7.7, 12.6, and 25.9 mg/L. The 48 -h EC50 was determined to be 14.1 mg/L (calculated as the geometric mean (EC0 / EC100) of the arithmetic mean of analytical values).
