Appearance / physical state / colour:
On the basis of physical observation and using the sense of smell, the Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) was observed to be colorless to pale yellow liquid organic compound with Floral, Fresh, Green odor.
Melting point/ Freezing point:
Freezing point of Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) was determined to be less than 25 degree celcius.
Boiling point:
The boiling point of Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is determined to be 215-225°C at 982.1 hPa
Density:
The density of Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is determined to be 0.88 - 0.92 g/cm3 at 25°C
Particle size distribution (Granulometry):
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REAcH regulation this end point was considered for waiver since the chemical Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is a liquid and is expected to be marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.
Vapour pressure:
The estimated vapour pressure of the test substance Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) at 25deg C was 14.67 - 21.34 Pa (0.11-0.16 mmHg).
Partition coefficient:
The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of test chmeical Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared.The Log Pow value was determined to be 4.89 dimensionless at 25°C.
This value indicates that the substance is very hydrophobic in nature.
Water solubility:
The water solubility of test substance Mentha citrata, ext. is determined to be less than 0.1 mg/L at 25°C.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is used in perfumes, deodorant, parasiticide, as stimulant, etc. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point of Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is 72-79 °C at 980.9 hPa.
Autoflammability:
Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) was considered as non-flammable.

The density of test substance Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) was determined following OECD guideline OECD 109 according to pycnometer method. The density of Mentha citrata, ext. (CAS no. 85085-49-0) is determined to be 0.88 - 0.92 g/cm3 at 25°C.
