Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:

Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study done at Universiteit Utrecht using method developed specially for testing highly hydrophobic chemicals (slow stirring method).
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to same study
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 123 (Partition Coefficient (1-Octanol / Water), Slow-Stirring Method)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Water and octanol were mutually saturated with each other. FR-370 was dissolved in water saturated octanol and subsequently equilibrated with water (saturated with water). Equilibration of the two phases occured in the slow-stirring experiment, in which the two immiscible phases are are gently stirred such that the formation of octanol-microdroplets is prevented. Three independent reactors are used in this experiment.
After equilibration has occured, replicate water and octanol samples are withdrawn from each reactor and subjected to chemical analysis for the concentration of FR-370 in both phases. For each reactor an average value of Log POW and its variance are determined. These data are employed to calculate a variance-weighted average of the three reactors. This value represent the slow stirring Log POW value of FR-370 determined in the present study.
