Description of key information

Appearance:

Methyl non-2-enoate physically appear to be Colorless to light yellow liquid having Characteristic violet like odor.

Melting point:

As Methyl non-2-enoate is in liquid state freezing point is concluded to be -89.9 Deg C.

Boiling Point:

Temperature at which Methyl non-2-enoate starts to change phase from liquid to gas is determine to be 209.9 Deg C.

Density:

Density of Methyl non-2-enoate is determined to be 0.8971 g/cm2 at temperature 25 Deg C.

Particle size distribution:

the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form (Methyl non-2-enoate physically appear to be liquid.)

Vapour pressure:

Vapour pressure of Methyl non-2-enoate is determined to be 1.333 kPa & 202.636 kPa at temperatures 95.84 & 236.96 Deg C.

Partition coefficient:

KOWWIN V1.68 was used to estimate the octanol water partition coefficient of the test substance methyl (2E)-non-2-enoate (CAS no. 111 -79 -5). The partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance methyl (2E)-non-2-enoate was estimated to be 3.6.

Water solubility:

The estimated water solubility of methyl non-2-enoate at 25 deg C was 52.1 mg/l

Surface tension:

Surface tension of Methyl non-2-enoate is determine to be 0.02691 N/m at 25 Deg C.

Flash point:

Flash point of Methyl non-2-enoate is determined to be 91 Deg C.

Auto flammability:

methyl non-2-enoate did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27 °C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that  methyl non-2-enoate  is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Methyl non-2-enoate does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that methyl non-2-enoate is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus methyl non-2-enoate was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.

Explosiveness:

the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidizing properties:

the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
