Additional information

Skin Irritation (in vitro)

CAS 93777-46-9

The skin irritation properties of Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoatewere tested in a study according to OECD 439 and EU Method B.46 and in compliance with GLP (Eurlings, 2016). The EPISKIN Small Model™ was exposed to 25 μL of the unchanged test material for 15 ± 0.5 minutes and was incubated for another 42 hours after one washing step. The MTT test revealed a mean tissue viability of 102%. Therefore, Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoate is not regarded as skin irritant.

Eye irritation (in vitro)

CAS 93777-46-9

The eye irritation properties of Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoatewere tested in a study according to OECD 492 and in compliance with GLP (Eurlings, 2015). The EpiOcular™ cornea epithelial model was exposed to 50 μL of the neat/ undiluted test material for 30 ± 2 minutes and was incubated for another 2 hours after rinsing and removal of the test item. The MTT test revealed a mean tissue viability of 88%. Based on the obtained results, Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoate is not eye irritating.

Conclusion on skin and eye irritation properties

The available data on skin irritation with Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoate (CAS 93777-46-9) do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as the classification criteria according to OECD 437 were not met (< 50% of the mean viability of the negative control) and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification.

The available data on eye irritation with Decyl 2-Ethylhexanoate (CAS 93777-46-9) do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as the classification criteria according to OECD 492 were not met (< 50% of the mean viability of the negative control) and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on irritation do not meet the classification criteria according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification.
