- - Method of mixing into soil: The respective test item was weighed out (nominal weight: 3330 mg; actual weight: 3330.3 mg) for the test item concentration, solved in Acetone (2.5 mL per replicate) and mixed thoroughly with quartz sand (10 g per replicate). After complete evaporation of the solvent, the spiked quartz sand was added to the artificial soil. Demineralised water was added to the artificial soil to adjust the humidity of the artificial soil to a moisture of 54 % of the maximum water holding capacity. EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED (with observation intervals if applicable): At experimental starting and experimental completion, the pH-value and moisture content of the test medium were determined in each treatment and the control from pooled samples of all replicates. The water content of each test container was checked weekly by weighing. The weight loss was replenished with the appropriate amount of demineralised water. The body weight of the adult earthworms was determined individually on day 0 and day 28 for each replicate. After the first four weeks, the adult earthworms were removed. Mortality and morphological changes of the adult earthworms were recorded for each replicate. After a further four weeks, the number of offspring hatched from the cocoons was counted for each test container. Test concentrations of test item and the controls were confirmed by analytical verification on day 0 and at test end from pooled samples of all replicates.

The measured concentrations of the test item at the start of the exposure were within the range of 95 to 109% of the nominal values and demonstrate the right preparation of the tested concentrations. At the end of the exposure, the measured concentrations were between 3 and 7%. - Results with reference substance (positive control):

When running the test, a Shapiro-Wilk Normality Test and a Levene’s Equal Variance Test were done first. The a-value (acceptable probability of incorrectly concluding that there is a difference) was a = 0.05. For the endpoint of reproduction, the arithmetic mean and the variance (coefficient of variation) per treatment and control were calculated.

- Under the conditions of this study, Di(iso)-pentylterephthalate did not induce evident earthworm mortalities (< 10 %) nor significant pathological symptoms or changes in the behaviour of adult earthworms in the controls and all test item concentrations There were no statistically significant differences in earthworm body weights in all test item concentrations compared to the pooled control. There were no statistically significant differences in earthworm reproduction in the treatment rates 62.5 to 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight compared to the pooled control. Overall, the NOEC of the test item concerning mortality, biomass and reproduction was determined to be 1000 mg test item/kg SDW.

Description of key information
In a short-term toxicity study with Eisenia fetida (earthworm), the NOEC was determined to be ≥ 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight. The NOEC concerning mortality, biomass and reproduction has been determined in a long-term test with Eisenia fetida to be 1000 mg/kg sdw.

A short-term limit toxicity test with Eisenia fetida has been conducted to test the acute toxicity of the test substance according to the OECD guideline No. 207 in compliance with GLP. No significant mortality (<10%) and no pathological symptoms or changes in earthworm behaviour were observed in the control and the limit test substance concentration after 14 days of exposure. Also in terms of body weight loss, no statistically significant effects were observed in the limit concentration after 14 days of exposure compared to the pooled control. Therefore, the NOEC was determined to be >=1000 mg/kg soil dry weight.
The effects of the test substance on mortality, biomass and the reproductive potential of earthworms has also been tested in compliance with GLP in a long-term (8 weeks) test according to guideline OECD 222. Eisenia fetida has been exposed to five different test concentrations up to 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight in artifical soil. After 28 days of exposure in soil, neither evident mortalities (<10%) nor significant pathological symptoms or changes in the behaviour of adult earthworms has been observed (NOEC >=1000 mg/kg sdw). There were no statistically significant differences in earthworm body weight and reproduction in the treatment rates 62.5 to 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight compared to the pooled control.
