Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), undecenal was appeared as clear pale yellow coloured liquid.
Thus, undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was appeared to be clear pale yellow coloured liquid
Freezing point:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), The Freezing point of test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was done by using clear pale yellow mobile liquid. No freezing was observed up to -17.6°C. Hence, the freezing point was inferred to be less than - 17.6 °C at 965.5 hPa.
Boiling point:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), boiling point of Test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The mean boiling point was found to be 182.6°C at 965.6 hPa.
On the basis of Danish (Q) SAR prediction Database (2016), Boiling point of undecenal is estimated to be 240.39°C
Thus, undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) boiling point was found to be in between 182.6 to 240.39°C.
Density:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), mean density of test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to the IS 4730: 1994 (Reaffirmed 2010) -Method for Determination of Density of Liquids (First Revision) using glass pyknometer. The mean density of Undecenal was found to be 0.8429 g/cm3 at 20°C and 966.2 hPa.
Thus, density of Undecenal was found to be 0.8429 g/cm3 at 20°C and 966.2 hPa.
Particle size distribution:
The chemical Undecenal is a liquid chemical and hence it is technically not possible to estimate the particle size distribution (granulometry) of the chemical. Hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Vapour pressure:
On the basis of Danish (Q) SAR prediction Database (2016), Vapour pressure of undecenal is estimated to be 6.053 Pa.
Particle coefficient:
On the basis of Danish (Q) SAR prediction Database (2016), octanol-water partition coefficient (Log Kow) of undecenal is estimated to be 4.04 indicating that the substance is hydrophobic in nature.
Water solubility:
On the basis of Danish (Q) SAR prediction Database (2016), water solubility of undecenal is estimated to be 22.27 mg/L. This value indicates that the undecenal is slightly soluble in water.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical Undecenal is used as a flavour and fragrance chemical. For this use, surface activity is not desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), flash point of Test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was performed by closed cup method using Pensky-Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The mean flashpoint of the test item was found to be 101°C at 965.3 hPa.
Thus, flashpoint of Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was found to be 101°C at 965.3 hPa.
Auto flammability:
undec-2-enal did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that undec-2-enal is not auto-flammable
Flammability:
The chemical Undecenal is an aromatic aldehyde. Its close analogue chemical 10-undecenal has a NFPA Flammability rating of 1. Thus, the chemical undecenal is unlikely to be "Flammable" under normal conditions of use, storage and transportation and hence this end point was considered for waiver & the chemical is classified as "Non Flammable".
Explosiveness:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of Undecenal. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver and the chemical is considered to be "Non explosive".
Oxidizing properties:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance Undecenal is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen but no halogen atoms and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemcial is likely to be "Non-oxidising".
pH:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), mean pH of test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was done following OECD guideline 122. pH of 1% w/v emulsion was measured with the help of pH meter and it was observed to be 6.25 at 30 °C.. Thus, 1% solution can be considered to be acidic in pH
Viscosity:
In a study conducted by Sustainability Support Service (Europe) AB (2016), viscosity of Test item Undecenal (CAS No. 1337-83-3) was done as per the test guideline OECD 114 using Redwood Viscometer No. 1. Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of Undecenal at 20°C and 40°C is 12.58 mm²/sec and 11.43mm²/s, respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of Undecenal at 20°C and 40°C is 10.62 mPa.S and 9.65 mPa.S, respectively.
