Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
AAA reaction product is a complex mixture of monomers, dimers, trimers and polymers plus water (UVCB substance) used as a binder for gluing the individual mineral fibres together to form a firm product. It may also act for gluing a tissue to the surface of the mineral wool mats/slaps/rolls. The use is contained, the substance is 100% used industrially in a closed system. During production the substance is consumed and the mineral wool end products do not contain the substance. Industrial use of the substance is that it will be used for production of mineral wool products, i.e. AAA reaction product is cured (polymerized).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Bioaccumulation potential:
- no bioaccumulation potential
Additional information
Specifc absorption rates have not been determined. However mild effects observed at 250 mg/kg bw/day in a 28-day oral toxicity study ((OECD 407) indicates some aborption after oral exposure. As an concervative approach the absorption rate from dermal exposure is considered equal to the absorption rate from oral exposure. Also in relation to inhalation a similar absorption rate is considered. In route to route extrapolation, no differences in absorption rates can therefore be accounted for.
In terms of bioaccumulation, the partition coefficient of the single theoretical substances of AAA reaction product have been calculated using the US EPA's Episuite v. 3.11. The Episuite calculations indicate that the partition coefficients are low i.e.
Monomers: DEA = -2.18;
THPA(anhydride) = 0.02;
TMA(anhydride) = 0.95;
THPacid = 0.74;
TMacid = 0.95;
Dimers: -3.08 to -0.24;
Trimers -4.49 to 1.64
From these low values, no potential for bioaccumulation is concluded.
