- - Number of subjects exposed: 80
- Sex: male/female
- Age: 16-45
- Race: Asian
- Demographic information: Japan, from Tokyo and Osaka
- No clinical history provided. - Details on exposure:
- TYPE OF TEST(S) USED: patch test (epicutaneous test)
ADMINISTRATION
- Type of application: occlusive
- Description of patch: A piece of lint of about 1 cm2, was applied to the test area. A cellophane of 2 cm2 was placed on the lint and then covered with a plaster of 4 cm2.
- Vehicle / solvent: base cream or 99 % ethyl alcohol
- Concentrations: 0.03-0.5 %
- Testing/scoring schedule: test for 24 to 48 h, reading 30 min after removal
- Other: The application was done on the back, the flexor aspect of the forearm and the inside of the upper arm. The test was carried out 1-3 times per month from September to next May, the summer season being excluded.
EXAMINATIONS
- Grading/Scoring system: - No visible reaction; +/- Slight erythema; + Erythema; ++ Erythema and swelling or marked erythema
Results and discussion
- Results:
- No signs of skin irritation were observed in any of the subjects.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- Patch test in 80 Japanese with the test substance (0.03-0.5 %) showed no skin irritation potential.
- Executive summary:
A patch test with 80 Japanese was conducted with the test substance (0.03-0.5 %). The application time was between 24 to 48 h and the concentration used was 0.03-0.5 % in base cream. Evaluation of the test side 30 min after exposure determination showed no skin irritating potential of the test substance.
