Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

- Guideline:
- other: ESCIS Expert Commission for Safety in teh Swiss Chemical Industry, Booklet 1 "Sicherheitstesten fur Chemikalien".
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Determination of Minimum Ignition Temperature in the BAM Oven (Construction of the German "Bundesanstalt fur Materialprufung").
The BAM-oven is a 170 mm long electrically heated pipe oven. Approximately in the center of the oven there is vertical impact plate.
Powder in a small tube is injected by a pressurized air system from the face of the oven axially against the impact plate. The temperature of the surface is registered. The test at that temperature is positive if flames or a bang are observed within 10 seconds. The time period includes also ignition os smoldering gases. The appearance of simple sparks is not classified as ignition.
The test method applied is more detailed and rigorous than the one described in ESCIS'booklet or VDI guideline.
Two screening series are performed. The first series starts from temperature nearby 600°C. The test is performed by 50°C intervals while cooling down spontaneously. If there were positive tests, the second series start at the lowest positive test and is performed by 10°C intervals.
The final series is performed in isothermal conditions in stable conditions at different powder concentrations. The highest temperature with a negative result sofar in the screeing tests is repeated five times. If all repetitions are negative the procedure is completed. If not, the same procedure is repeated at a lower temperature by 10°C intervals until 5 negative tests are proven at one temperature.
The lowest temperature with a positive result in the screening series or final series is the Minimum Ignition Temperature in the BAM Oven. - GLP compliance:
