The aquatic toxicity Bis(2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethyl)butanedioate.
The aquatic toxicity was estimated using the ECOSAR model v1.10 included in the EpiSuite program of US-EPA. Bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl)butanedioate is regarded as an ester. The estimated 96-hr LC50 value for algae is 31.9 mg/l. The estimated chronic value (ChV) is 8.8 mg/l, the corresponding NOEC is 6.22 mg/l.
In ECOSAR, the estimated chronic toxicity is expressed as the chronic value (ChV). The ChV, is defined as the geometric mean of the no observed effect concentration (NOEC) and the lowest observed effect concentration (LOEC). To derive a NOEC, the ChV can be divided by √2 (REACH Guidance R10, Table R10-1).
The acute and chronic aquatic toxicity of Bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl)butanedioate for freshwater fish and Daphnid were also estimated in ECOSAR v1.10. The estimated 96-hr LC50 values for fish and Daphnid are 38.6 mg/l and 78.2 mg/l respectively; the ChV values for fish and Daphnid are estimated to be 2.75 mg/l and 49.7 mg/l; the corresponding NOEC values are 1.95 mg/l and 35,1 mg/l.
The effect of bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl)butanedionateon on growth of the unicellular algal speciesPseudokirchneriella subcapitatawas measured during a 72 hours exposure period. Based on the results from a range finding study, the main study was conducted at12.5, 25, 50, 100 and 200mg/L bis(2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl)butanedionate in OECD TG 201 medium. No solvent was used. Results are expressed in geo mean values. The test was performed in triplicate, at 21 to 24°C, pH 7.3-7.7and light intensity of approximately 60-120 µEm-2 S-1. The medium composition is reported. At 0, 24, 48 and 72 hours the number of cells was measured in each test vessel (hemacytometer). Results were expressed as % growth inhibition compared to the control, for biomass and growth inhibition. The effect concentrations and the 95% confidence levels were calculated. Information to evaluate the test quality is available and the pH did not shift more than 1 unit. Test results are therefore valid. Analytical results are documented for concentration of the test substance during the exposure. The ErC50is >200 mg/l and EyC50is 198 mg/l.
