Description of key information

In the key inhalation study (DCC, 2000) the one-hour LC50 value was 4478 ppm (17329.59 mg/m3) in rats (based on nominal concentrations). The main clinical effects (excluding death) were local effects on the respiratory tract and the eyes. Division of this 1-hour LC50 by two provides a 4-hour LC50 of 8664.8 mg/m3 for classification purposes. There are no data for the oral and dermal routes of exposure.

Dose descriptor:
LC50
Value:

Additional information

The most reliable of two available studies was selected as the key study. The second study did not provide an LC50 as it tested concentrations that were too low.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test substance is labelled R20, 'Harmful by inhalation', according to the criteria of EU Directive 67/548/EEC. Based on the LC50 (8.66 mg/l) from the key inhalation study, it is proposed that chlorodimethylsilane be classified as 'Acute Tox 3 (vapour)' under Regulation 1272/2008.
