Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance is considered to have a low bioaccumulation potential. As a worst case, the absorption rates via the oral, dermal and inhalation routes ate assumed to be 100% for DNEL derivation.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

In conclusion, there is no evidence that isobutylisopropyldimethoxysilane is significantly absorbed via the dermal route. The results of oral acute and repeated dose toxicity studies with the test substance indicate that it is absorbed orally. Toxic effects were observed in an acute inhalation study indicating absorption by this route, however, the substance does have a low vapour pressure therefore a significant inhalation exposure to vapours is not expected.. The test substance has been shown to undergo hydrolysis at pH 7 therefore it is possible that the substance undergoes hydrolysis in the gastrointestinal tract probably to (2-methylpropyl)(propan-2-yl)silanediol and methanol. These hydrolysis products are likely to be eliminated rapidly from the body in the urine therefore the test substance is predicted to have a low potential for bioaccumulation.
