Additional information

Biodegradation in water :

The half life period of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid in water is 60 days and based on this value it can be concluded that the chemical is persistent in water medium and will not easily bio-degrade. Also the diffusion percentage of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid in water medium was observed to be 7%.

Biodegradation in water and sediment :

Half life period of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid in water observed 60days (half-life) while in sediment it is 540 days.(half-life).

The supporting study also indicates the half life of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid in water and sediment to be 1440 hrs and 13000 hrs respectively.

Based on this half life values of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid, it is concluded that the chemical is non biodegradable in water and sediment medium.

Biodegradation in soil :

The PBT Profiler & EPI Suite has estimated that 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid is expected to be found predominantly in soil and its persistence estimate is based on its transformation in this medium. Its half-life in soil, 120 days., exceeds the threshold of being persistent in soil. Therefore, 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid is estimated to be persistent in the soil environment. The substance 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid diffuse to the extent of 82% in the soil medium.
