Additional information

The short-term toxicity to zebra fish (Danio rerio) was determined in a study according to OECD guideline No 203 and in compliance with GLP criteria. In this study groups of 7 fish were exposed to nominal test concentrations of 0 (control), 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 mg/L for 96 hours under static conditions. The test item concentrations were analyzed by a non-specific method; the content of the total organic carbon (TOC) was determined to characterize the exposure level of the test item at exposure initiation and after 96 hours under test conditions. Based on the TOC measurements, endpoint values are determined based on nominal test concentrations. Fish were observed for survival and changes in behaviour, respiration and pigmentation throughout the test.

Mortality was first seen at a test concentration of 12.5 mg/L (14.3% total dead) and followed a clear concentration-response relationship up to 85.7% total dead at the highest concentration tested. At the two highest test concentrations symptoms consisted of unbalanced swimming behavior and problems with respiratory function. Based on the observed mortality, the 96 -h LC50 value was determined at 36.49 mg/L.
