In accordance with section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted as the method is not appropriate for complex substances. For this compartment, PNECs are derived using the Hydrocarbon Block method and the Target Lipid and Equilibrium Partitioning Models that are incorporated into the PETROTOX spreadsheet tool.
C9 aromatics hydrocarbons are a non-polar narcotic, therefore, the application of EqP Theory is appropriate for assessing the hazard to terrestrial species. Laboratory studies indicate that C9 aromatics hydrocarbons are not acutely toxic to birds.
