First-aid measures
Description of first aid measures
Liberation of reaction products (hydrocyanic acid) can lead to symptoms of poisoning.
If the following symptoms are observed, cyanide poisoning should be considered: headache, vertigo,
dizziness, convulsions, disorder of breathing, apnea, cardiac arrest.
Take off all contaminated clothing immediately.
Remove victims from hazardous area.
Inhalation
Remove to fresh air.
In case of difficulties in breathing, supply oxygen.
No mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-nose artificial respiration. Use artificial respiration bag or respirator.
Consult a physician.
Skin contact
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.
Wash off with plenty of water and soap immediately, seek medical advice if necessary.
If skin irritation occurs, call physician.
Eye contact
Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes and seek advice of an eye specialist.
Protect unharmed eye.
Ingestion
Have the mouth rinsed with water.
Do not induce vomiting without medical advice.
Consult a physician.
Fire-fighting measures
Suitable extinguishing media
Adapt fire-extinguishing measures to surroundings, spray mist, dry chemical, carbon dioxide (CO2)
Unsuitable extinguishing media
Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
In the case of fire, the following hazardous smoke fumes may be produced:
ammonia
Carbon oxides
nitrous gases
Hydro-cyanic acid
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters
In the case of fire, wear respiratory protective equipment independent of surrounding air and chemical
protective suit.
Advice for firefighters
In the event of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil, or stretches of water Ensure there
are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire. Contaminated fire-extinguishing water
must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Ensure adequate ventilation. Use personal protective equipment.
Heavier than air vapour.
Environmental precautions
Shut off source of leak if safe to do so.
Contain spillage and do not allow to contaminate soil and drains or watercourses.
Do not allow entrance in sewage treatment plant.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Pick up with suitable adsorbent material.
Fill into marked, sealable containers.
Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with the regulations.
Additional advice
Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water.
In case of release of HCN: formation of explosive mixture with air in the range of 5 - 46 Vol.% HCN/m3.
Handling and storage
Storage
Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
