Guidance on Safe Use

First-aid measures

. General information:

 Symptoms of poisoning may even occur after several hours; therefore medical observation for at least 48 hours after the accident.

· After inhalation:  Supply fresh air.  Consult doctor if symptoms persist.

· After skin contact:  

 Immediately remove any clothing soiled by the product.

 Wash immediately with plenty of water and soap and rinse thoroughly.

· After eye contact:  

 Rinse opended eye for several minutes under running water.

· After swallowing:  Rinse mouth and drink plenty of water.

 Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

· Suitable extinguishing agents:   fire-extinguishing powder, CO2; only in case of big fire: water spray jet

· Unsuitable extinguishing agents for reasons of safety:  water, foam.

· Special hazards caused by the material, its products of combustion or flue gases:

 In case of fire, toxic incineration products can be released:

 Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

 Carbon oxides (COx)

 Cyanic acid fumes (HCN)

· Protective equipment:  Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

· Additional information:  Dispose of fire debris and contaminated fire fighting water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

·  Personal safety precautions:  

  Wear respiratory protective equipment.

  Ensure adequate ventilation.

  Evacuate personnel to safe areas.

  Remove all sources of ignition

  Beware of vapours accumulating to form explosive concentrations.

  Vapours can accumulate in low areas.

· Measures for environmental protection:

  Prevent from spreading (e. g. by enclosing with a ring of chemical absorbent).

  Do not allow  substance to reach sewage system or water courses.

  Inform authorities in case of contamination of water or sewage system.

   

· Measures for cleaning/collecting:

  Soak up with an electrically protected vacuum cleaner or by wet-brushing.

  Dispose of contaminated material as waste according to local regulations pertaining to the disposal of hazardous waste.

  Provide adequate ventilation. Use respiratory protection in case of insufficient ventilation.

Ensure "strictly controlled conditions" to avoid exposure.

Exposure controls / personal protection

· Personal protective equipment

· General protective and hygienic measures:

 Use skin cream for skin protection.

 Avoid contact with the eyes and the skin.

 Do not inhale gases/fumes/aerosols.

 Immediately remove any soiled and impregnated garments.

   

· Respiratory protection:

 For short-term or low-level exposure use respiratory protection of type ABEK (EN 14387).

 For longer or heavier exposure use self-contained respiratory equipment.

 

· Protection of hands:

 Chemical protective gloves according to DIN EN 374 with CE-labelling.

 Check the condition of protective gloves after each use for any damages like holes, cuts or tears.

 After use of gloves apply skin-cleaning agents and skin cosmetics.

· Material of gloves: Selection of the glove material on consideration of the penetrating times, rates of diffusion and the degradation.

· Gloves made of the following materials are not suitable: Leather gloves

· Eye protection:

 Tightly fitting safety goggles to DIN EN 166.

· Body protection:

 Protective clothing.

 Reacts with water heavily under development of HCN
