The determination of the relative self-ignition temperature of the test item was performed according to the EEC Directive 92/69, EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992 and Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.16 “Relative self-ignition temperature for solids”.
During this study the self-ignition characteristics were determined. Therefore, the test item was filled into a cube and heated in an oven. The temperatures of the oven and the sample were continuously recorded while the temperature of the oven was increased to approximately 400 °C.
The correlation between the temperature of the oven and the sample temperature of cC6O4 ammonium salt is shown in Figure 1.
Using a linear increase in temperature of about 0.5 °C/min, cC6O4 ammonium salt showed no exothermic reaction. cC6O4 ammonium salt has a melting point of about 65 °C (as determined in Harlan Laboratories study C66277).
As the above-mentioned guideline only applies to solids, the temperature range between 65 °C and 400 °C is not relevant for the present test item. At the end of the measurement of cC6O4 ammonium salt had run out of the sample cube and no residue remained.
As the substance melted prior to acheiving any self ignition, it is deemed that the substance does not pose hazard for this endpoint.
