Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term aquatic toxicity was modelled and supported by experimental data on methyl or ethyl (S)-lactate (read-across partner), long-term aquatic toxicity tests are not available, but deemed as not necessary, see respective waiving statements.

Fish (QSAR): LC50 = 290 mg/L

Daphnia (QSAR): EC50 = 811 mg/L

Algae (QSAR): EC50 = 368 mg/L

Activated sludge inhibition test: waived on basis of biodegradability and read-across test with ethyl (S)-lactate resulting in a NOEC of >= 1000 mg/L.

Additional information

Neither modelled effect concentrations nor experimental data showed LC/EC50 values in acute aquatic toxicity studies with fish, daphnids and algae at or below 100 mg/L. Therefore, methyl (S)-lactate is not classified for environmental hazards.
