Description of key information

NTO was found to photo-degrade at wavelengths within the range of solar irradiation via hydrolytic denitration and photo-rearrangement;

ammonia, nitrite and nitrate were detected as final products.  after 7 days, >90%  of NTO had degraded.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A Phototransformation assessment was performed as a part of package testing (summarised in Annual Report, 2012 and performed by Environmental Analytical Chemistry and Applied Ecotoxicology Groups, National Research Council of (2).
