Results and discussion

Test results (Oxidising solids)
Key result
Remarks on result:
other: Based on the chemical composition of the product and the chemical structure of the single components present in the test item, it is concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Any other information on results incl. tables

The main components 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfural (CAS no. 67-47-0), Fructose (CAS no.  57-48-7), 1-(furan-2-yl)-2-hydroxyethan-1-one (CAS no. 17678-19-2), Glucose (CAS no.  50-99-7) and Sodium formate (CAS no. 141-53-7) contain oxygen chemically only bonded to carbon or hydrogen. For these components oxidizing properties can be excluded.

The test item also contains a small amount Sodium nitrate (CAS no. 7631 -99 -4), which is classified as oxidizing solid in Division 5.1 (Packing Group III) according to UN Recommendations on the TRANSPORT OF DANGEROUS GOODS: Model Regulations Volume I, Rev. 20, New York and Geneva, 2017. Since all other main components do not have oxidizing properties, it can be stated that the small amount of Sodium nitrate will not have an effect on the oxidizing potential of the whole product. The same applies to the other components with a mass fraction below 1 % w/w.

In addition, the test item contains no other components except for water, which is known to have no oxidizing properties.

Based on the fulfillment of the above cited requirements of Appendix 6 for the main components, it can be stated that the test item 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfural has no oxidizing properties.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Based on the chemical composition of the product and the chemical structure of the single components present in the test item, it is concluded that 5-(Hydroxymethyl)furfural has no oxidizing properties.
Based on the chemical structures, the test item should not be classified by:
