Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The partition coefficient of naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined in a HPLC study to range from 0.8-5.4.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The partition coefficient of naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined to range from 0.8-5.4. The partition coefficient of naphthenic acids, zinc salts was determined in a GLP-compliant test (Charles River 2018) following OECD guideline 117. The results are considered to be reliable for use.

The partition coefficient of zinc naphthenate was estimated using a QSAR model (KOWWIN v1.68 in EPISuite v4.11, US EPA 2012), following the Atom/Fragment Contribution method. KOWWIN provides estimates for the ionised acid rather than zinc naphthenate. The log octanol-water partition coefficient (Log Kow) values for the representative constituents of zinc naphthenate are estimated by QSAR to be in the range of 1.89 - 11.15.
