ACCLIMATION

- Acclimation conditions: Holding was performed at the test facility at 23 ± 2 °C and diffuse light (0.1-10 μmol/m^2s, natural photoperiod) in tap water. The water was changed at least once per week. The dissolved oxygen concentration was more than 80% of the air saturation value.
- Type and amount of food during acclimation: Food was provided 3 times per week. The amount of food was 4% of the fish body weight per feeding day. The test fish were not fed until 24 h before the test started. The diet was Trouvit 40 / 2.

TEST MEDIUM / WATER PARAMETERS
- Source/preparation of dilution water: Tap water of local origin was used for holding and testing. The water was filtered on activated charcoal and aerated for at least 24 h to remove chlorine. The water is analysed once a year acc. to German tap water regulation.

EFFECT PARAMETERS MEASURED:
- Observations were made after 24, 48, 72 and 96 h
- Fish would have been considered dead if there was no visible movement (e.g. gill covers movement) and if touching of the caudal peduncle produced no reaction. Records were kept of visible abnormalities (e.g. loss of equilibrium, swimming behaviour, respiratory function, pigmentation, etc.)
- At test start body weight and total length of a representative number of 10 test fish were determined. These fish were not used for testing
- The concentration leading to 0 and 100% mortality (LC0 and LC100) as well as the no effect level (NOEC) after 96 h were determined directly from the test results. LC50-values have not to be calculated in a limit test

- No mortality was observed in the preliminary test at 100 mg/L.
MAIN TEST
- 14% mortality in the test concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal concentration) are regarded to be not significant. No non lethal effects were observed throughout the test. Therefore the NOEC was laid down as 100 mg/L (nominal concentration).

- Executive summary:
The acute toxicity of the test material to fish was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 203, under GLP conditions.
A static limit test was conducted using Brachydanio rerio (Zebra fish) with the nominal concentration 100 mg/L selected on the basis of a preliminary range finding test, the duration of the test was 96 hours. During the study 7 test organisms were exposed to the test concentration and the control.
The test material showed sedimentation and turbidity throughout the test. All effect values are based on the nominal concentration of the test material. DOC-analysis was carried out at test start from the test material and the control vessel.
Water quality parameters of temperature, pH-value, oxygen-saturation measured after 0, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h were determined to be within the acceptable limits. The validity criteria of the test were fulfilled.
