Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
BASF AG, Safety data sheet PARA-TERT.-BUTYLTOLUOL REIN, 28.10.2009
General advice: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If danger of loss of consciousness, place patient in recovery position and transport accordingly. Apply artificial respiration if necessary. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.
If inhaled: Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.
On skin contact: Immediately wash thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention.
On contact with eyes: Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.
On ingestion: Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water, seek medical attention.
Note to physician: Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote.
Type: accidental spillage
RM-Freetext:
Personal precautions:
Resiratory protection necessary
Environmental precautions:
Do not let enter sewerage.
Methods for cleaning up or taking up:
Pick up and dispose
Fire-fighting measures
BASF AG, Safety data sheet PARA-TERT.-BUTYLTOLUOL REIN, 28.10.2009
Suitable extinguishing media: dry extinguishing media, foam, carbon dioxide.
Special protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.
Further information: Collect contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not allow to reach sewage or
effluent systems.
Accidental release measures
BASF AG, Safety data sheet PARA-TERT.-BUTYLTOLUOL REIN, 28.10.2009
Personal precautions: Breathing protection required. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Information regarding personal protective measures see, chapter 8.
Environmental precautions: Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.
Methods for cleaning up or taking up: For small amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of.
For large amounts: Pick up with suitable appliance and dispose of.
Handling and storage
BASF AG, Safety data sheet PARA-TERT.-BUTYLTOLUOL REIN, 28.10.2009
Handling: Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Wear suitable protective clothing and eye/face protection. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Keep container tightly sealed.
Protection against fire and explosion: Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy.
Storage:
Suitable materials for containers: carbon steel (iron), Stainless steel 1.4401, Stainless steel 1.4301 (V2), aluminium, glass.
Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place. Protect against heat.

Exposure controls / personal protection
BASF AG, Safety data sheet PARA-TERT.-BUTYLTOLUOL REIN, 28.10.2009
Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection:
Breathing protection if gases/vapours are formed. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65°C, e.g. EN 14387 Type A)
Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Hand protection:
Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recmmended: Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374): nitrile rubber (NBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness
fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness
Supplementary note: The specifications are based on own tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar
substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in
practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.
Eye protection:
Safety glasses with side-shields (frame googles) (e.g. EN 166)
General safety and hygiene measures:
Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.
