Description of key information
The test substance is a beige powder at room temperature.
In the 1st heating run a melting temperature of crystalline components was determined at 91°C by differential scanning calorimetry ( EU method A1).The cooling run showed no crystallization. Additionally,in the 2nd heating run the test substance showed a glass transition temperature (amorphous components) at -12°C.
A boiling temperature and/or a thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition products was determined earliest at 344 °C at 1002 mbar by differential scanning calorimetry (EU A.2).
A relative density of 1.276 at 20°C was measured by using the pycnometer method. (EU method A.3).
The particle size analysis of the test item was performed by laser scattering analysis according to ISO 13320 -1. The mass median aerodynamic diameter was calculated to be 33.6 µm.
A vapour pressure of <= 4.5 10E-5 mbar at 20°C was determined by Differential Scanning Calometry according to the Dynamic Method (EU A.4).The calculation is based on the lowest possible boiling temperature according to the definition in the EEC Directive 92/69/EEC, method A4 (Grain Watson estimation).
The octanol/water partition coefficient (log Pow) is 0.772 at pH 7.45,measured in accordance with EU method A.8 by HPLC.
A water solubility of 37 g/L at 20°C was determined by the flask method in accordance with EU method A.6.
The surface tension of an aqueous solution of the test item (1 g/L) was determined to be: 71.9 mN/m at 20 °C ± 0.5 °C according to EU Method A5.
A flash point was not determined because a flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting solids.
In an auto flammability study according to EU method A.16 no self ignition was observed.The maximum temperature of the oven was 400°C.
In a flammability study according to EU Method A.10 the test substance melted on heating.Therefore,the combustion is beyond the specified time frame for flammability of 4 minutes for 200 mm and the test item can not be classified as highly flammable.
Examination of the structure of the test item indicates that there are no groups associated with explosive properties. Furthermore,the oxygen balance was calculated to be -215 (being less than -200). Therefore,negative results can be predicted and no testing for explosive properties has been carried out.
In a study according to EU method A.17 the burning rate of the test item was significantly shorter than the burnig rate of the reference material.Accordingly,the test substance does not have oxidising properties.
