- For the determination of the real concentrations, the area of the measured reference solution with 1 g test item/L was used (Area 2,231). The analytical determinations of the test item in the test solution showed good recovery after 96 hours. The recovery of more than 100 % was probably caused by evaporation effects. Therefore the test item can be considered as stable under the test conditions.

Observations were made every 24 hours, measuring pH and 02-concentration of the test solution in each vessel and recording mortalities or abnormal behaviour.In the mainstudy, the real concentration of the test item in the solutions were determined at the start and at the end of the test.
A fish was considered dead, if no visible movement could be observed, and if touching of the caudal peduncle produced no reaction.

The measured concentrations at the start of the test showed good correlation with the nominal concentrations (82 -104 %). At the end of the test, only 4-90 % of the nominal concentration were detected. The recovery rate after 96 hours was therefore only in a range of 4 and 86 %. As the test item was found as stable under the conditions of the test in a concentration of 100 mg/L and the absolute loss of the test item during the test was nearly the same in each test solution (ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 mg/L), it can be assumed that the reduction of the concentration was caused by an uptake through the fish. Therefore the geometric mean of the measured concentrations was used for the determination of the results.

- Conclusions:
- The study is regarded as a valid guideline study with certificated GLP compliance. According to the reported LC50 value (> 1000 mg/L) the test substance is not classified as toxic for fish.
- Executive summary:
The acute toxicity to fish of MOPS HIGH PURITY was tested according to OECD guideline 203 and EU Method C.1 in a static freshwater test with zebrafish (Danio rerio, Hamilton-Buchanan) as test organisms. The study was conducted under certificated GLP compliance. The validity criteria were met. In the initial experiment, two concentrations of the test item (1000 and 100 mg/L) were used. For each concentration, three fish were exposed to the test item for 96 hours. No concentration caused mortality towards the fish. None of the animals showed signs of morbidity at the end of the test. The pH and the oxygen value of the treatments were normal. The main study was performed as a limit test using the nominal concentration 1000 mg/L which showed no effect on the fish. The real concentration of the test item in the treatment was determined before and after the test. The test item can be stated as stable under the test conditions. Therefore the nominal concentration was used to estimate the result.
The following result was determined for the test item MOPS HIGH PURITY acute toxicity test against Danio rerio, HAMILTON BUCHANAN :
96h-LC50 : > 1000 mg/L
