Description of key information

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.13, this study does not need to be

conducted because the substance does not contain halogen or nitrogen atoms which are chemically bound to oxygen.

Additional information

The test substance has no oxidizing properties in the sense of Guideline 92/69/EEC, method A.17.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Sodium sulfonate, sodium estersulfate, aliphatic-aromatic sulfone:

The molecule of the test substance contains two sodium sulfonate groups (one is bonded to an aromatic, the other to an aliphatic structure), a sodium sulphate group, and an aromatic-aliphaticsulfone group.

For possible oxidizing properties of the oxygen-rich groups of the test substance (sodium sulfonates sodium sulphate) a comparison was made with p-toluenesulfonic acid sodium salt, methanesulfonic acid sodium salt, and sodium sulphate, which all have no oxidizing properties according to RID/ADR class 5.1.

For the sulfone group oxidizing properties are also excluded. This is proofed by representative examples for this structure, i.e. diethylsulfone and diphenylsufone, which are not classified as oxidizing substances according to RID/ADR class 5.1 .

Carbon imide structure:

Additionally there is a carbon imide group in the molecule. The carbon imide group is known to have no oxidizing properties.

Azo-Structure:

Further the molecule contains an azo structure. Here oxidizing properties can also be excluded. This is proofed by a representative example for the present structure, i.e. azobenzene, which is not classified as an oxidizing substance according to RID/ADR class 5.1 .

Sym-Triazine (2 carbons of this are derived from carbonic acid):

The test substance also contains a sym-triazine structure, with two carbons which are derived from carbonic acid. From this structure oxidizing properties are not to be expected: s-Triazine is not classified as an oxidizing substance according to RID/ADR class 5.1 .

Fluorine and oxygen. At last the compound contains fluorine, but this element is chemically bonded only to carbon, and some oxygen, bonded also to carbon. So the testing procedure foroxidizing substances need not to be applied (Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods I Manual of Tests and Criteria (ST/SG/AC.1 0/11/Rev.3), page 401).
