Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- water solubility
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- From June 22 to July 7, 1995
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: Guideline study with few acceptable restrictions. Not fully GLP compliant (no accreditation claimed) but quality system in place.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.6 (Water Solubility)
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- 14C-radiolabelled material was used; pH not measured; no preliminary study.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
- GLP compliance:
- not specified
- Remarks:
- GLP like
- Type of method:
- column elution method
- Water solubility:
- 18 µg/L
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- pH:
- ca. 7
- Remarks on result:
- other: pH cannot be measured due to the test design. No ionisable group on the molecule.
- Details on results:
- Temperature: 19.9 - 20.1°C.
Two assays were conducted:
Assay 1:
recirculating flow rate 25ml/h
Water solubility: 18.33 µg/L, s = 1.012
Time to attain saturation plateau = 22 hours
Assay 2:
recirculating flow rate 12.5 ml/h
Water solubility: 17.54 µg/L, s = 0.125
Time to attain saturation plateau = 22.5 hours
The difference between assay results was 4.85%. Therefore, assays agreed with a repeatability of less than 30% - Conclusions:
- Interpretation of results: insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L)
The substance was found to be practically insoluble in water. The water solubility was found to be 18 µg/L. - Executive summary:
The water solubility of 14C-radiolabelled dibenzyltoluene was determined according to EU Method A.6 (column elution method). It was found to be 18 µg/L (at 20°C).

Description of key information
The water solubility of 14C-radiolabelled dibenzyltoluene (Dibenzylbenzene, ar-methyl derivative) was determined according to EU Method A.6 (column elution method). It was found to be 18 µg/L (at 20°C).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Water solubility:
- 0.018 mg/L
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
