Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 (3h), bacteria [(R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)-propanoic acid] > 100 mg/L (Grade 1996)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of the test item was measured in an activated sludge respiration inhibition assay according to OECD Guideline 209 and EU Method C.11 under GLP. The inhibitory effect of the test substance was expressed as a percentage of the mean respiration rates of two controls. Following values were based on nominal concentrations. Decrease in respiration rate (inhibition) after incubation with the test item was always ≤ 15% with no visible dose response. The EC50 (3h) was found to exceed the highest tested concentration of 100 mg/L.

Potassium (R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionate, when dissolved in water becomes equal to the test item (R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propanoic acid and toxicity to baxtreia of the potassium salt is therefore equal to the toxicity to bacteria measured for the acid. It can therefore be concluded by read-across without reasonable doubt that the EC50 (3h) of potassium (R)-2-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionate is >100 mg/L.
