Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP compliant, guideline study, available as unpublished report, acceptable without restrictions
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: N4 (Modified Method) Self Heating Substances
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The test item was only available in very limited amounts and was extremely expensive. Therefore, in order to obtain as much information as possible on the self heating properties of the test item a modified procedure was employed.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

Carbonyl(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O’)(triphenylphosphine) rhodium showed no signs of self-ignition or significant heating over the duration of the test.

No self heating was observed for the test item when held at temprature of 140 °C for 24 hours. When the teperature increased from 140 to 400 °C at a heating rate of 30 °C/hour, self heating occured at 171 °C. However, the maximum observed temperature rise of the sample above that of the oven was only approx. 23 °C and therefore not considered significant as defined by the method guideline.

Conclusions:
Carbonyl(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O’)(triphenylphosphine) rhodium showed no signs of self-ignition or significant heating over the duration of the test.
Executive summary:

This is a GLP compliant, guideline study considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.

Carbonyl(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O’)(triphenylphosphine) rhodium showed no signs of self-ignition or significant heating over the duration of the test.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

O'Connor and Woolley (2011) is a GLP compliant study following a modified N4 guideline and is considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint.

Carbonyl(pentane-2,4-dionato-O,O’)(triphenylphosphine) rhodium showed no signs of self-ignition or significant heating over the duration of the test.
