Reference
Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
April 11 , 2006 to June 27, 2006
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
241 °C
Remarks on result:
other: The temperature of the test substance exceeded 400°C at a corresponding oven temperature of 241°C

- An exothermal reaction of the test substance occurred at a temperature of 225°C and led to 420°C. The temperature of the test substance exceeded 400°C at a corresponding oven temperature of 241°C.

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the study, the relative self-ignition temperature of the test substance was found to be 241°C.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the self-ignition temperature of the test substance according to EU Method A.16, in compliance with GLP.

8 cm3(4.8 g) of the test substance was placed in an oven at 27°C. The temperature of the oven at which the test substance temperature reached 400°C by self-heating was recorded while the temperature of the oven was increased to 400°C at a rate of 0.5°C/min.

An exothermal reaction of the test substance occurred at a temperature of 225°C and led to 420°C. The temperature of the test substance exceeded 400°C at a corresponding oven temperature of 241°C.

Under the conditions of the study, the relative self-ignition temperature of the test substance was found to be 241°C.

Description of key information

The relative self-ignition temperature of the test substance was found to be 241°C (Smeykal, 2006).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
241 °C
