PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

1,1,3,3-Tetramethylguanidine (CAS 80-70-6) is not readily biodegradable (according to OECD criteria), therefore the substance is assessed to be potentially P or vP. The substance is not expected to significantly bioaccumulate in organisms (based on measured log Kow ≤ 3 and estimated BCF < 2000) and is, therefore, not B or vB. According the experimental toxicity data on algae, the substance is assessed to be not T (NOEC = 100 mg/L, Lonza Ltd, 2017, limit test). According to the available acute toxicity data of the substance to aquatic invertebrates and algae, no effects were observed in the highest test concentration (100 mg/L, limit tests, analytically verified, Lonza Ltd: daphnia: 2015, rep. no.: 698 -202 -0757; algae: 2017, rep. no.: 698 -201 -0756). Therefore, the lowest available acute value is >> 0.1 mg/L and the substance holds no official classification.

Based on the available information, 1,1,3,3-Tetramethylguanidine (CAS 80-70-6) should not be considered as a PBT/vPvB substance.
