There are no data available for 2-(diethylamino) ethyl methacrylate for testing toxicity to microorganisms. In a biodegradation test (OECD 301C, MITI-Test) with 2-(diethylamino) ethyl methacrylate, no inhibition to microorganisms were observed. The test substance hydrolyzed at pH 7 within 3.8 h (50°C).

Hence, the assessment of the test substance was made on the structural analogues 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (CAS# 2867-47-2), 2-diethylaminoethyl acrylate (CAS# 2426-54-2) and 2-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate (CAS# 2439-35-2). For the determination of toxicity to microorganisms of 2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate one study is reported using Pseudomonas putida as test organism. The result of this investigation showed an EC10 of 42.7 mg/L. 2-diethylamonoethyl acrylate showed in a study using Pseudomonas putida an EC10 of 46.1 mg/L. The toxicity of 2-dimethylaminoethyl acrylate on microorganisms was determined in two different studies using Pseudomonas putida (EC10 = 210 mg/L) and activated sludge from industrial sewage treatment plant (EC20 > 1000 mg/L), respectively. The results of these investigations showed no significant toxicity to microorganisms. Therefore, an inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is unlikely when the test substance is introduced in appropriate low concentrations.
