No data are available for chlorodimethyl(vinyl)silane (CAS 1719-58-0). In water, chlorodimethyl(vinyl)silane hydrolyses very rapidly to dimethyl(vinyl)silanol, therefore good quality data for an appropriate structural analogue of this silanol, trimethylsilanol (CAS 1066-40-6), have been read across. The other hydrolysis product is hydrogen chloride.

A 72-hour EC50value of >684 mg/l and NOEC of 44 mg/l have been determined for the effects of trimethylsilanol on growth rate of Selenastrum capricornutum (new name: Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) based on geometric mean measured concentrations of the test substance. This study is considered to be reliability 1 (reliable without restrictions); the read across of the results is considered to be reliability 2 (reliable with restrictions).

The potential for toxicity caused by the vinyl group has also been considered. Data for trimethoxyvinylsilane (CAS 2768-02-7) indicate that the vinyl fraction of the registered substance is of very low short-term toxicity to algae (7-d EC50 210 mg/l).
