Viscosity for highly refined base oils is >3 mm2/s at 40°C and >1.3 mm2/s at 100°C (CONCAWE, 2010a). Viscosity was determined using the ISO 3104 test method.

Additionally, highly refined base oil viscosities may be characterised by measured values for several samples, which range from 3.08 to 11 mm²/s at 100°C (CONCAWE, 1997). Viscosities were determined according to the ASTM D 445 test method. An assessment of the composition and physical-chemical properties for ten samples of food-grade white oils reported viscosity values ranging from 14.2 to 73.5 mm²/s at 40°C (CONCAWE, 1984). Viscosity values for white oil (CAS # 8042-47-5) have also been reported to range from 13.3 to 99.8 mm²/s at 40°C (CONCAWE, 1993). In another study, four highly refined white mineral oils were reported to have viscosities ranging from 26.5 to 103.7 mm2/s at 40°C (Haus et al., 2003).
