Epidemiological data
Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- epidemiological data
- Type of information:
- other: review
- Adequacy of study:
- weight of evidence
- Study period:
- Articles from Jan 2000 to Aug 2020
- Reliability:
- 4 (not assignable)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- documentation insufficient for assessment
- Remarks:
- There is no information given on quality criteria of study inclusion, however the review still gives a good overview of epidemiological studies concerning DMP

Results and discussion
Any other information on results incl. tables
MMP (the main metabolite of DMP) was not associated with:
-anogenital distance in Japanese newborn (Suzuki, 2012) and in Taiwanese neweborn (Huang, 2009);
-coronary heart disease (Song, 2015);
-thicker carotid-artery intima and media thickness (which itself is associated with the prevalence of cardiovascular disease) in young adults and adolescents in Taiwan (Su, 2019).
A sum parameter of low molecular weight phthalate esters (including MMP) was associated with a lower nonverbal IQ score in children (van den Dries, 2020). However it is unclear if this is of direct relevance.
Higher MMP levels were associated with premature thelarche (Chou, 2009 and Zhang 2015), however the study population was very small with only 89 participants and the relevance is therefore unclear.
MMP was not associated with obesity in children (Xia, 2018). However in another study (Amin, 2018) MMP was associated with obesity in Iranian children. Further there was an association with obesity in Chinese males and females (Li, 2020) and DMP was associated with total cholesterol levels in Chinese serum (Zhang, 2018). The results are somehow inconsistent. However, since DMP is used in food packaging, a correlation (without causality) seems plausible.
