Description of key information

The vapour pressure of bis(4-tert-butylcyclohexyl) peroxydicarbonate at 20°C was determined to be < 0.01 Pa or 1.0E-04 mbar.

Additional information

Due to the properties of the substance no measurement of the vapour pressure according guidance was possible. The study represents a summary of ACD/labs calculations, a DSC run, and predictions of vapour pressure based on molecular weight and structure, extrapolated from similar substances. The instability of peroxides makes measuring of the vapour pressure difficult. The high molecular weight and the fact that bis(4-tert-butylcyclohexyl) peroxydicarbonate is solid contribute to the difficulties. Therefore, the vapour pressure was determined in the underlying study using available experimental data and calculation methods.

To determine the vapour pressure of bis(4-tert-butylcyclohexyl) peroxydicarbonate three methods were applied:

- ACD/Labs calculation method: p = 1.20 × 10-5 Pa at 25 °C

- DSC method in combination with the calculated heat of evaporation: p < 4.3 Pa at 20 °C

- Relation between vapour pressure and molecular weight: p = 1 × 10-7 to 1 × 10-8 Pa at 25 °C

Based on these results the vapour pressure of bis(4-tert-butylcyclohexyl) peroxydicarbonate at 20 °C was determined to be < 0.01 Pa or 1 × 10-4 mbar.
