Description of key information

Concerning the physico-chemical properties of 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether, i.e., low molecular weight (189.26) and log Pow value (3.83), absorption of 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether is expected to mainly occur via dermal and oral route, with very limited potential for inhalation absorption. After absorption, 2-ethylhexyl GE is expected to be mainly detoxified though chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis by epoxide hydratase and conjugation with GSH. In addition, 2-ethylhexyl GE can be metabolized to adduct with some proteins. Metabolites are distributed in blood cells, thyroid, liver and kidney. Animal data suggest that 2-ethylhexyl GE may be excreted mainly via urine or (to a smaller extent) by feces, in form of metabolites that result from conjugation with GSH, or from the epoxide hydrolysis pathway and parent compound. In addition, excretion of metabolite after oxidative de-alkylation has been demonstrated.
