Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Provide fresh air; in cases of sickness seek medical advice
(show label if possible).
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes and
seek medical advice. Keep eyelids well open to rinse the
whole eye surface and eyelids with water. Seek medical
advice and clearly identify substance. Continue to bathe
eyes during transport to medical practitioner.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water or soap and water;

seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.
Immediately remove all contaminated clothing.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink plenty of water in small portions; seek medical

advice immediately and produce the label or packaging.
Advice for the physician:

In case of contact with water material splits off (also in
gastrointestinal tract) methanol in larger amounts;
therefore consider poisoning on methanol and also observe
known period of latency of several days.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water mist, extinguishing powder, alcohol-resistant foam,
carbon dioxide, sand.

Product arising from burning: Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, silicon dioxide, nitrogen
oxides.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear personal protection equipment. Keep unprotected persons
away. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhaling

mists and vapours. If material is released indicate risk of
slipping.

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or
sewers and open soil. Contain any fluid that runs out using
suitable material (e.g. earth). Retain contaminated
water/extinguishing water. Dispose of in prescribed marked
containers.

Do not flush away with water. For small amounts: Absorb with
a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and
dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations.
Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers.
Clean any slippery coating that remains using a detergent/
soap solution or another biodegradable cleaner. Exhaust
vapours.

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid exposure by technical measures or personal protective
equipment.

In case of aerosol formation special protective measures are
required (exhausting by suction, respiratory protection).
Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from incompatible
substances. Spilled substance increases risk of slipping.
Product can separate methanol. In closed rooms vapours may
form mixtures with air leading to explosion in the presence
of sources of ignition, even in empty, uncleaned vessels.
Keep away from sources of ignition and do not smoke. Take
precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Cool
endangered containers with water.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not inhale
gases/vapours/aerosols. Do not eat, drink or smoke when
handling.

In case of long or strong exposure: gas mask filter ABEK.
Protective gloves made of butyl rubber. Gloves suitable for
up to 60 minutes' use.

Tight fitting protective goggles. Provide work station with
eye bathing equipment.

Protective clothing.

Storage: Avoid contact with acids. Protect against moisture. Keep
container tightly closed and store in a cool, well
ventilated place.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Bottle (1 kg); Can (25 kg); Barrel (200 kg)

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Inhalation of aerosol spray may damage health.

Chemical reaction with water: Reacts with water, alcohols, basic substances or acids under
formation of methanol.

Dust explosion: Not applicable

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not possible

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: By careful hydrolysis (under formation of methanol) the
substance can be converted to a high molecular, non-reactive
polymer.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a
special waste incinerator.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: During production of the substance no water is used so that
no waste waters appear.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not applicable

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable - the pure substance is not designated for
the public.
