Comment: The substance MSDS stated the sample has a flash point of 6.1°C.

The sample was placed in a freezer (below -20°C) and was found to be frozen. Even at 3°C the test material was still partially frozen. The sample was found to be fully liquid at 7°C and when tested was observed to flash with a large blue flame. It was not possible to test the sample at lower temperatures using the available methods. The Seta Flash method was investigated but this was also found to be unsuitable.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the study the flash point of the test material was determined to be < 7°C at 101.2 kPa.
Since the boiling point of the substance is reported as 82°C (non-GLP data) the substance is classified as a flammable liquid Category 2 on the basis of this result.
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test material was determined in a study which was conducted under GLP conditions and in accordance with the standardised guideline ISO 13736 BS 2000 Part 170 following a closed cup method, utilising Abel apparatus.

Under the conditions of the study the flash point of the test material was determined to be < 7°C at 101.2 kPa. No correction of the result was required due to barometric pressure.
