Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Partitioning of alkyl sulfates into the different environmental compartments depends mainly on their physico-chemical properties. Since the water solubility of C8-18AS Mg & TEA is very high (> 500 g/L) and the log Pow value is quite low (<= -0.62), the substance is expected to stay in the aqueous phase and adsorption to soil or sediment is unlikely. Additionally, since the substance is readily biodegradable according to the OECD criteria, it will not be persistent in the environment.

The substance is not expected to evaporate into the atmosphere due to the low vapor pressure of <= 130 Pa at 20 °C. However, if entering the atmosphere, C8-18AS Mg & TEA will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes (depending on the chain length half-life time in air is 17 to 42 h). Thus, long-range transport through the atmospheric compartment is not expected. Abiotic hydrolysis is not relevant, since the substance is readily biodegradable and thus expected to be eliminated through biodegradation in natural waters.

Based on the rapid environmental biodegradation and the low log Pow, C8-18AS Mg & TEA has a low potential for bioaccumulation.
