Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
A measured partition coefficient determinations was run on ethyl hexyl methoxycrylene (EHMC)(EC Number 700-213-5), following EU Method A8. In addition the partition coefficients of both EHMC and undecenyl methoxycrylene (UMC) (EC Number 700-824-2) were estimated using the EPIWIN KOWWIN program..
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Log Kow (Log Pow):
- 6.32
- at the temperature of:
- 20 °C
Additional information
The two chemical substances, EHMC and UMC, are closely related in molecular structure and functional groups. The only difference between these substances chemically is the alcohol group on the ester functionality. For EHMC, the alcohol moiety is 2-ethylhexyl- (branched eight-carbon chain), and for UMC the alcohol moiety is undecenyl (straight eleven-carbon chain with a C=C alkene bond at the end of the chain). These two substances, based on their close similarity of molecular structure, molecular mass, and functionality, would be predicted to have similar properties. UMC information is being used as read across data for certain toxicological endpoints for this registration.
A measured octanol/water partition coefficient determination (following EU Method A.8) was conducted for EHMC with the resulting Log Pow of 6.05-6.32. The Log Pow for EHMC was also estimated using the EPIWIN KOWWIN Program with the resulting Log Pow = 6.96. For comparison the Log Pow was run on UMC, also using EPIWIN KOWWIN. The resulting Log Pow was 8.37. The highly positive Log Pow values obtained in all three determinations are in reasonably close agreement. It is expected that the UMC estimated value would be somewhat higher (8.37 versus 6.96) than that predicted for EHMC, since the alkyl chain on the ester moiety of UMC is straight chain eleven-carbon compared to the 8-carbon branched chain for EHMC. The close agreement of these partition coefficient values supports the similarity of properties and read across approach for EHMC and UMC.
